Pihsiang Machinery MGF. Co. was established in December, 1983. The original capital was NT$5 million dollars. In 1984, the company started looking for lands for its new plant. The new plant was located in ShingFeng, Hsinchu and it started production in March, 1985. In April, 1985, Pihsiang introduced agricultural transport products in the mountainous regions of Taiwan; the company received praises among farmers.
In 1989, Pihsiang built the first four-wheeled scooter for disable and aging people. The release made Pihsiang becoming the pioneer of the scooter and power wheel chair industry. The same year, it received the first of many U.S. patents for producing the first four-wheeled scooter with certification and passed the very stringent Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS). In the early 1990s, Pihsiang also received ADP (Canada), TNO (Netherlands) and TGA (Australia) approvals. Then in 1997, Pihsiang owned Shoprider brand released its first FDA, CE Mark (European Union) and Medicare-approved power wheelchair. The reputation of the Shoprider brand is that of the strictest quality standards in the manufacturing of all its own products and components, thus giving Shoprider the competitive advantage as specialists in processing capabilities.
Pihsiang accepts ODM orders for many top scooters and power wheelchairs companies; its products exports to more than eighty counties worldwide. Its SHOPRIDER® brand is also one of the top three best products.
1997, Pihsiang had to increase its capital; it decided releasing its stocks to the public. In the meantime, it introduced the power wheelchairs to the market. Between 1998 and 1999, the company received the prestigious ISO 9001 and ISO14001 certification for scooters and power wheelchairs. The following years, Pihsiang was authorized to release its stock to the public and list it in the Taiwanese stock exchange market; it was the first company having stock listed under the biomedical tech. category.
